6 Panel (Hexagon) Shape with Cathedrals
Vintage Original - See all photos and description
We are listing three different ones of these beautiful Rington tea jars or caddies today. We have owned these pieces since 1999 and we know the provenance of them as well. They belonged to an elderly lady who was an antique dealer for years. When she retired, she had an auction at her shop. Years later when she went into a nursing home, there was another auction of all the things she had collected for herself and her favorite and best pieces. These jars were purchased from that auction. According to our research, these three jars have never been reproduced with the exception of the one with the castle decorations and that was made by Wade Ceramics in 2000 and it has a wide gold trim making it stand out as very different plus it does not have the proper Maling England marks. You will also note that the beautiful detailing on all of them is the same with a design between and around each panel, top and bottom edges and trim. The inside of the lid has the Rington Tea logo in dark blue. The bottom has the Ringtons LTD Tea Merchants logo with the building detail, Algernon Road, Newcastle on Tyne, Maling Ware. Each bottom logo is a bit different but with the same information and they are all pictured with their jar. Each jar will be individually described in the next paragraph but these details pertain to them all.
Cathedral Jar: 7½ inches tall. Each panel has cathedrals and all are pictured in the photos.
Jar has some tea staining on the inside bottom. There is some light crazing on the inside with no staining or darkness. No crazing on the outside. On the inside rim of the lid there are two small chips which cannot be seen with the lid in place. The larger chip is about ¼ inch by 1/8 inch and the smaller one is about 1/8 inch by 1/16 inch. PIctured! No other chips or cracks or other damage. Nice vintage condition and beautiful detail. The cathedrals in the order of the pictures: Newcastle Cathedral, Selby Abbey, York Minster, Carlisle Cathedral, Ripon Cathedral, Hexham Abbey and on the top of the lid Durham Cathedral.

When making an offer, take a look at all our listings as we can deal better on selling more than one item together. NOTE: With the new shipping rates, be sure to read all the information on shipping below so you will know our policies about combining shipping. We work hard at trying to keep shipping as low as possible. Insurance will be provided on all breakable items and most other items. We also will continue to provide free delivery confirmation.
THE FINE PRINT:
We strive very hard to list quality antiques and collectibles on our eBay listings. We also strive to give you the best description and pictures we can so you can make informed purchases. Please read the descriptions and look at all the pictures. Any known flaws, however minor, will be pointed out. We want our customers to be happy and you can tell by our feedback that we work hard at that job. We pack well and all items come from a smoke free home. Expect all items to be clean unless noted in the description for some reason.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE SALE
You will receive an invoice as soon as possible after the listing closes giving you all the information you need to make a payment. Effective October 20, 2008, we accept ONLY PAYPAL as our method of payment. We ship the best method available and in some cases will offer a choice. We ship MOST items by Priority Mail. Textiles may ship First Class if the weight is under 13 oz. If you buy more than one piece and the weight goes over 13 oz, priority mail is used. Your invoice will tell you what methods of shipping available. Your item will be packed and shipped with care and we will try to keep the cost as low as possible without jeopardizing your item’s safety. Insurance is included in the shipping price and delivery confirmation is provided free of charge.
LARGE ITEMS AND COMBINED SHIPPING:
The new postage regulations are going to make shipping large items and combining items challenging but we are going to try to streamline it for our customers. Any package over 1 cubic foot may be subject to higher postage depending on the zone to which they are shipped and the size. We live in Zone 4 and if we are shipping to Zone 4, this is not much of an issue. We will use available tools from eBay and USPS to figure this on each invoice. Our intent is to charge actual shipping so if the estimated amount is more than the actual charge when the item is shipped, a refund will be issued to the buyer.
We will combine successful auctions for shipping purposes unless the items are too numerous or large to put in one box safely. Again, larger boxes can cause shipping to go higher and there may be times when it is cheaper to ship multiple large items in their own box rather than trying to combine them in one large box. We will use the option most beneficial to the customer.
If you are buying one item, the postage should be figured and entered so you do not have to wait for our invoice if you prefer to pay for it quickly. If you need items combined, you should wait for our invoice which will have shipping figured at the most economical level. Occasionally, someone will just pay all the shipping costs without asking for a combined amount. If you choose to do that, we will refund any overage that has been paid by a Paypal refund.
Also note that textiles may be shipped in padded envelopes but in some cases, based on weight and thickness, that envelope may be treated by the post office as a package and therefore the postage will be more expensive because it does not meet the requirements for a flat envelope. Again, we will try to pack it the most economical way for the buyer but we have no control over USPS rules or rates.
SORRY BUT WE NO LONGER DO INTERNATIONAL TRANSACTIONS.
