    Vintage MALING Newcastle on Tyne England Cream and Sugar
    Colors are Pink Blue Yellow Peony with a Luster Thumbprint
    It comes in the Peony pattern displaying gorgeous hand painted brightly colored Peonies in yellow and purple on a pink lustred lustre luster background.
    The sugar is 1 3/4 tall by 3" across and the creamer is 2 1/2" to the top of the spout and 4" from spout to handle.
    The sugar bowl was not made with a lid.
    Comes in perfect condition with no issues whatsoever.
    Backstamped with the Maling castle mark used from 1924 to 1963.
    It is quite rare little creamer set made by Maling between 1950 and 1955 according to the backstamp and pattern number. It is decorated with a branch of embossed blossoms and green foliage, with a lustred glaze finish. Maling pottery was produced, first in Sunderland and later in Newcastle upon Tyne, from 1762 to 1963. The high point of the 1920s for Maling was the acquisition in 1926 of Lucien E Boullemier as designer. Mr Boullemier brought a new panache to the factory and was prolific in his use of lustrous colours, lavish gilding and rich enamelling. Mr Boullemier also revived the practice of "waved" designs: pieces whose background was made up of short, circular brush strokes (often, erroneously, referred to as Maling "thumbprint"), a skilled technique which makes this set immediately identifiable as Maling.
